Distribution of elementary and secondary school teachers, classified
by sex, in several selected countries is shown in Table 3-3.
With the number of female teachers in elementary and secondary
schools in Japan increasing year by year, their proportion to the total number
of full-time teachers reached 54.2% in elementary schools and 22.4% in secondary
schools in 1974.The proportion of female teachers in other countries surpasses
that in Japan considerably at each school level, and is gardually rising in every
country, except the United States.
