While we understand that the industry-academic-government
cooperation is making a gradual progress as seen in the current increase in the
number of the tripartite joint researches and co-authored papers, it is important
yet for us to step up our efforts to develop the cooperation further, in view
of the present state of transferring the research achievement of universities,
etc. to industrial communities. The situation is far from satisfactory in comparison
with foreign countries, in particular the U.S.
Along with the growth of the global economic activities in
recent years, the economic competition among developed countries are intensifying,
and the science and technology in fields such as life science and telecommunication
are becoming predominant factors.
In order to maintain the international competitiveness, we
must create environment in which industrial communities capitalize on the research
achievement of the public research institutes, and at the same time, the industrial
needs are conveyed to the public research institutes. Generating common awareness
between industrial communities and the public research institutes is vitally
important.
It is much hoped that the public research institutes make
further efforts for making the outbound communication of information on their
research achievement as well as conducting researches that reflect social needs.
