2. Studying the Use of Works and Institutional Issues for Multimedia

Advances in information processing technology and the recent development and spread of multimedia are expected to result in the widespread and varied use of a large and diverse range of works. In November 1993 the Agency for Cultural Affairs received a report from the Subcommittee on Multimedia of the Copyright Council. On the basis of this report, the Agency is now studying approaches to the appropriate protection of copyright as well as promotion of the utilization and circulation of works. Among the measures being studied are

(1) the establishment of appropriate and harmonious licensing rules and consolidation of collective copyright administration and
(2) the establishment of the Collective Copyright Information Organization.

The Copyright Council's Subcommittee on Multimedia is now studying institutional issues in the area of multimedia.
