Chapter 6 Promotion of Scientific Research
3 Training and Securing of Young Researchers
In recent years in light of the international situation surrounding
Japan and the development of scientific research and research development trends
of private industries, the necessity is increasing for widespread training and
securing of talented researchers with creative and original ideas. Notably, the
securing and training of talented young researchers who will be expected to form
the nucleus of scientific research in the future has become one of the most important
tasks in the development of scientific research.
For this purpose, the Ministry, in addition to enriching and
improving graduate school facilities both quantitatively and qualitatively, is
endeavoring to train and secure outstanding young researchers through continual
support for the Fellowship Program for Young Japanese Researchers of the Japan
Society for the Promotion of Science (1,300 grantees as of 1992), and the post-doctoral
fellowships for research abroad, and fellowships for foreign researchers and
other fellowship programs.
