2 Educational Contents and Methods
(1) Curriculum in Elementary and Secondary Education
a. Preparation of Curriculum
In Japan, each school is responsible for preparing its own curriculum
in order to attain the educational objectives and goals. In this situation, each
school is called upon to prepare its curriculum in accordance with the Course
of Study prescribed by national government and local standards, etc. defined
by prefectural boards of education.
Next, while an outline of the mechanism of curriculum preparation
in selected countries is shown in Table 2-1, it may be said that, in every country,
educational administrative agencies of the national government or local governments
assume their respective responsibilities and roles in curriculum preparation
from a viewpoint of maintaining and furthering the universality of public education
and educational standards.
